Bionic man
Hi everyone its Sara, I have been given the responsibility of the blog whilst Andy is in hospital. Andy was admitted to the Nuffield on Tuesday afternoon the day before his operation. Arrived at 4pm admitted by the nurse and then seen by the on call doctor to be clerked. All very boring but necessary. Pre-op bloods were taken for full blood count group and save just in case blood was needed during or after surgery. We had hoped that Andy would be first on the list but had to make do with second meaning down to theatre at 11.30am The consultant and anaesthetist visited in the morning and the leg was marked with a big black arrow!

Fortunately a pre-med of temazepam was given which had the desired effect. Down to theatre at 11.45, bit of a delay in the anaesthetic room as the previous case was still in theatre. The anaesthetist was very good and allowed me to stay until Andy was anaesthetised. The next four hours felt extremely long. Fortunately Linz had arrived the night before to keep me company. Finally at 5pm I was allowed in recovery, Andy was still very sleepy, but recovered very well. His consultant had already left but the recovery nurse and plastic surgeon stated that the op had gone extremely well. They were confident that the tumour had been removed and had done frozen sections of bone either side of the tumour to confirm this. We have to wait up to 2 weeks to get the histology report which will confirm how necrosed the tumour is. The pathologist was also in theatre and stated that it was a very clean specimen which apparently is very good. Mr G the consultant had also told us that the knee MRI scan had shown an excellent response to chemo.

Thanks for the update, Sara.

[...] dose of Temazepam I was amazed at how calm I felt. It hadn’t been like that when I had my knee surgery; I was a gibbering wreck by the time the pre-med arrived. And this time I’d had to wait even [...]
