Support & links

These are organisations and people that have our full support, along with a few “just for fun/interest” links. Please offer them your support too if you are able. If I’ve missed any or you have a suggestion for a link, let me know via the comments.

Andy’s Angels – Race Dates

Go here to see all the race dates so far and view or subscribe to our race calendar.

Bone Cancer Research Trust

This is a relatively new charity and is top of my list for obvious reasons. Sara and Linz ran for BCRT in the Royal Parks half marathon in 2008. Sponsorship money from all the BCRT runners this year raised £50,000. It’s a great result but just a drop in the ocean in the charity stakes. If you’re looking for a charity to support, please consider BCRT.

Macmillan Cancer Support

A superb organisation offering practical support to cancer patients and their families, now merged with Cancerbackup. We continue to benefit directly from their support. If you’ve recently been diagnosed but not put in touch with your local Macmillan, get in touch with them. You’ll be glad you did.

Cancer Research UK

Needs no introduction I’m sure. Suffice to say, research into all cancers is given a huge boost by this organisation.

Willen Hospice, Milton Keynes

Our local hospice. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be terminal to benefit from their range of services. They’ve been a great support to us so far, particularly with regard to the minefield that is the UK benefits system!

Carol Jarvis

Carol is an exceptionally talented trombone player. I’ve known her since she was very young, having played with her in Stantonbury Brass. Carol was diagnosed in 2004 with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Despite her condition she continues to work (she just recently completed a European tour with Michael Bolton as one third of female brass trio Got The Horn. Yes, I know) and lives life to the full. If you’ve recently been diagnosed with cancer (or even if you haven’t), do read her bio. You’ll be inspired. And if you are a trombone player, take a listen to her playing. Exceptional.

Wulff Morgenthaler

Off-the-wall daily comic strip. Never fails to make me laugh when I need it, particularly this one.

The Daily Mash

Another darkly-comic site offering it’s oblique take on the day’s news. A guaranteed laugh, at least for me. WARNING: some content may offend the easily offended. just remember it’s tongue-in-cheek.

I Can Has Cheezburger

If you’re a cat lover, go and take a look. Again, the site only exists to make you laugh, at which it succeeds most admirably. You’ll understand once you’ve had a look.
