Dread

Posted by mac_kix_windoze. 2 Comments

Just a quick note to let you all know that I go to the hospital tomorrow to get the results of the scan I had in July.

Needless to say, I’d rather not go. So please send your good vibes/thoughts/prayers/reiki/whatever is your thang my way tomorrow. The appointment is at 10.40.

I hope I hear what I want to be told.

Well, my apologies to you all for keeping you in suspense for so long! Not that there’s anything particular to report but sorry anyway for not giving you anything fresh to read. There’s not really any reason other than I’ve been trying to live a “normal” life, whatever that is, since I last posted. Read the rest of this entry »

Race for Life, Take 2

Posted by mac_kix_windoze. 1 Comment

Last Sunday’s Race for Life 10km event was a great success!

After an uneventful drive to Gloucester, we arrived in the beautiful grounds of Hartpury College with plenty of time to spare before the event began. We eventually met up with Linz, Mel and Jamie and A’s (hereafter referred to as Pob) wife (referred to as Frog) and children, Tash and Alex. The course, as it turned out, was mainly cross-country style, through fields and on tracks rather than a road/path-based course. It was quite hilly in parts and there was a bit of cow-pat dodging involved so all in all a challenging course. Read the rest of this entry »

Dr Foster

Tomorrow (Sunday 21st) sees Sara & Linz taking part in race 7 in the Angels’ series.

We’re trekking off to Gloucester for it for two reasons. One, it’s a Cancer Research Race for Life event, but a 10km run rather than the usual 5km and two, because Gloucester is the home town of A and family. As you know, A is being treated for Hodgkins Lymphoma and is mid-chemotherapy at this very moment. We worked out last night that we haven’t seen A & co for two years, near as makes no difference. Things I Always Wanted to Say…….

Posted by mac_kix_windoze. 11 Comments

…….but never dared to in public!

This is the first in a series. I’ve decided there’s quite a few things I’ve always kept in my head for fear of offending somebody or not wanting to appear to conform to the generally-held view about whatever it is. But no more. I’m just going to say them and to hell with it. So, apologies if I offend you with what I’m going to rant about today, but……….well, tough. It’s my blog and I’ll say what I like. Cut your mobile charges, help Bone Cancer Research!!

My good friend Ed sells SIM cards that dramatically reduce the cost of your call charges whilst you are abroad. So they’re ideal for your holiday or business trips. Ed has made a very generous offer to anyone that reads this:

He will donate £1 from every SIM card sale and 3% of any top-up that is made through his website to my chosen charities, the Bone Cancer Research Trust and Willen Hospice.

So please, if you’re going abroad, consider Ed’s SIM cards and you’ll be helping us raise badly-needed funds too. Click the link below for all the details:

Just to add to the general crapness of the past few weeks, we heard some more bad news.

Our friend A, currently fighting Hodgkins Lymphoma, went back to his consultant at the end of last week to hear the results of his latest tests. Read the rest of this entry »

Frustration

Posted by mac_kix_windoze. 5 Comments

OK, well many of you will know by now that I’m back at home, already. So to save repeating myself:

I am still much more myelosuppressed (my immune system is still not functioning correctly) than was expected at this stage. The dose of Methotrexate I was to receive today was considered too dangerous to give, because of that. I won’t go into all the other frustrations that happened during this visit (and there were many), suffice to say we are not happy, not happy at all. Those other frustrations are, for the moment, for us and the Prof to discuss and for the hospital management to respond to.

The outcome is that we can now call this current cycle of chemotherapy finished as delaying administering this drug another week would be of no benefit. We will now move on to what would have happened anyway at the end of this cycle which is that I will have further scans, I have no idea when so don’t ask, to determine the next course of action. Beyond that, your guess is as good as mine, buddy.

For now, I’m happy to be at home again. Your support is very, very much appreciated. Thanks.

Angels Race 4

Posted by mac_kix_windoze. 1 Comment

Sorry for the recent absence of posts, been a funny few days, which I will post about later.

Meantime, yesterday saw us at race 4 in the Angels Charity Race Series, the Oxford Town & Gown 10km. There was also a Junior Athletes race. For the adults race we had 7 runners, which is our biggest turnout yet. The runners were Sara, Linz, Stu, Mel, Rachel, Ken, Andy and the juniors were Hannah, Emily and Jamie. So ten runners in all. All had a really enjoyable race with Rachel and Andy achieving personal bests for the distance! Read the rest of this entry »
